Remarkable $425,922 raised for Growing Healthy Together!

Lamèque, September 14, 2022 – The Fondation de l’Hôpital de Lamèque announced today that the great generosity of the community, which has surpassed all expectations, has allowed it to raise a total of $425,922, which is $60,922 over the target it had set.

The foundation had launched its fundraising campaign on September 16, 2021, with an initial goal of raising $300,000 for the expansion of the Family Medicine Unit (FMU) in order to improve patient and staff comfort and access to primary health care for the community. The community’s enthusiasm allowed the foundation to announce, on February 10, 2022, that it planned to raise an additional $65,000 to enhance the Frontline Staff Development Bursary Fund. The revised goal of the fundraising campaign was now $365,000.

“We are extremely grateful for the generosity of the community, which is allowing us to have a significant impact on all the care and services provided at our facility. Whether it is through contribution to the expansion of the FMU or investment in staff development, you have once again shown us the importance that you place on health care development in our area,” said Norma Aubut, Chair of the Board of Directors.

The foundation also used the event to recognize a caring volunteer who has been working within our foundation for many years:  Marie-Jeanne Noël was Chair of the Roses Radiothon for 10 years and has now been the Northern Star Campaign Chair for the past 15 years.

Impact on services provided

Speaking on behalf of Vitalité Health Network, Ms. Shelley Robichaud, Director of Primary Health Care and facility representative, expressed her gratitude to the Foundation and the community for their support, which ensured the success of the fundraising campaign.  “The infrastructure improvements that will be made to the Lamèque Hospital and Community Health Centre are in line with our strategy to ensure the development of optimal access to resources and care throughout the Network’s territory, particularly in rural areas.
