Various dignitaries and guests were there to mark the occasion.

A woman of heart and action, Marie-Jeanne Noël is a well-known figure in the Lamèque region. Over the years, countless causes and community organizations have benefited from her commitment as a volunteer. With her boundless enthusiasm and infectious energy, her profound contribution deserves to be publicly recognized and honoured. The Fondation de l’Hôpital de Lamèque Inc. is one of the causes close to her heart and to which she has dedicated many hours of her time. “In June 2022, I saw some information on the Internet about the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers. When I read the nomination criteria for this honorary distinction, one name immediately came to mind: Marie-Jeanne Noël. As Chair of the Foundation, I took the initiative of nominating her for this medal,” explained Norma Aubut, Chair of the Lamèque Hospital and CHC Foundation.

The Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers is a recognition program offered by the Governor General of Canada. According to official documentation, the medal recognizes the exceptional volunteer achievements of Canadians from across the country in a wide range of fields and pays tribute to the dedication and commitment of volunteers. They embody the caring country we aspire to build.

The following text will be published on the webpage of the Governor General of Canada, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon:

“Marie-Jeanne Noël has been fully devoted to community service since 1974.
